Why Do People Like Wrestling?

Wrestling Popularity
A Google search of the word wrestling gives 141,000,000 results. Whether or not YOU like wrestling, A LOT of people must like it. Otherwise there would not be so many searches involving the word wrestling. So, based just upon the number of searches wrestling receives, it's pretty clear that this whole wrestling thing is here to stay...at least for the foreseeable future. Love it or hate it, wrestling is popular!
Wrestling: Real or Fake
I'm not planning on using much space to talk about whether wrestling is real or fake. Those discussions have been around for eons and are just not new. Regardless if wrestling is real or not, the number one reason I hear when I ask people why they like wrestling is that it's entertaining.
A few guys have shared that they kind of see wrestling like a movie, except you don't have stunt doubles and outtakes. It's all right in front of you.
Many of the women I posed this question to tell me that they love the muscled hard bodies and the mens' "outfits." I should have qualified their answers and learned whether they were talking about the wrestling shorts or the garb worn into the ring. My bad!
Wrestling Fun
Everyone is a bit different. That's what makes the world go round, so they say. I found it intriguing to hear some individuals compare wrestling to the gladiator games and the games in the Roman Coliseum. While the intentional outcome is not death of one of the wrestlers, this is a dangerous sport (I am aware that by calling wrestling a sport a bunch of folks will object as they don't agree). Wrestlers are hurt. There is often blood.
Athleticism was another often bantered about reason people love wrestling. These fighters have to be in decent shape in order to enact all the various moves. Some of the body contortions I've seen in wrestling matches look downright impossible to the average person on the street. At least I know they'd do me in were I to even attempt it. Honestly, I'm not sure if these guys had to go through gymnastic training or dance lessons.
Wrestling is action packed and fast moving. One man told me that he has A.D.D. and that he loves wrestling because it is broken up into small bites of quick action. He gets a break. Then it's more wrestling. I can see that. It's almost like what they've done with the news. Brief sound bites without a lot of in-depth detail. I'd have to say that's for the matches themselves. Because fans seem to know all sorts of details about their favorite's life in and out of the ring.
Wrestling has become BIG business. With so many fans, there's a lot of money to be made. Besides the typical fan merchandise (t-shirts etc.), there are action figures and all sorts of what-not for people to latch onto. Wrestling has gone prime time, too. Just recently, a major wrestling super star made an appearance on the top rated TV show, American Idol. I don't think anyone tuned into AI to see Hulk Hogan. But it was fun! It was entertaining.
